Inspired by the character symphonies of Franz Liszt, Hector Berlioz, Michael Daughterty and Stacy Garrop, Gotham: A Symphony in Noir celebrates 85 years of Bill Finger’s and Bob Kane’s creation and his roots in hard boiled noir. Each of its five movements is inspired by characters and events from his vast mythology, reflecting the many moods these stories have lived for nearly a century.
Gotham: A Symphony in Noir will be about 25-30 minutes long, scored for symphonic band. Each of its projected five movements will be designed to be performable independently of the others while still retaining a strong symphonic identity within the whole.
